I am currently designing a Virtual Ward Kit
Problem
Daily monitoring at home can be stressful, confusing, and easy to get wrong when patients are unwell and using multiple loose devices.
Initial Ideation
Developing three ideas
Virtual Ward Book
Rose Flower Bio Indicators
Solution
The solution was to develop a hydroponic system that uses very little precious water while withstanding the harsh marine environment, limited light below deck, and constant movement of the boat.
A portable concept that organises devices and guides the user through each step.
Hydroponic concepts for a low-resource environment
Vermicompost tea provides a nutrient rich solution that can be diluted with water, including rainwater where available.
The system uses deep water culture, so the solution must be aerated with an air pump and air stone to support healthy roots.
It is designed as a closed loop system to recirculate water and minimise waste.
Worm castings are nutrient rich, and the worms can be fed with plant waste, helping reduce resource use.
A separate vermicompost bin would supply the castings or tea for the hydroponic system.
Vermicompost tea
Solutions using Vermicompost tea
Hand pumped aeroponics
Mobile aeroponics for urban farming
AR smart beauty mirror
Rapid sketching and ideation example
Sketching and designing for fun
Settle Station
A concept focused on posture, stillness, and improving measurement accuracy.
Designing a hydroponic system for offshore sailing
Problem
On long sailing voyages such as the Vendée Globe, Transpac, and transatlantic races, sailors often run out of fresh food. Its value is not only nutritional, but psychological, as eating only canned or freeze dried meals for days can be deeply demoralising.
